Disable Notification Sound Only

Hey there,

I'm trying to just disable the notification sound when I'm connected to a Bluetooth device and then reenable sounds when I'm disconnected.

I've been able to do this but it also enables do not disturb as well at the same time. I want to still see notifications come through, I just don't want the sound to come through.

I tried all I could find turning notification sound off or simply changing to vibrate, but it always seems to enable do not disturb as well.

Am I missing something easy? Thanks.

There's an action to set notification sound, maybe you can set it to none when you don't want sound and set it back when you do

What about setting it to a very low value such as 1?

In my experience what happens when MD turns off notification sounds, depends on the phone.
I have had phones that turn on do not disturb.
My current phone doesn't turn on do not disturb when MD sets notification sound to 0.
If you haven't already tried, set the MD notification to 1, 2, 3 etc until you find the value at which do not disturb is not turned on. If this is 10 or less, the resulting notification sound will probably be too low to be heard.

Unfortunately, any notification sound will cut out the streaming Bluetooth music and then bring the music back up. This is what I'm trying to avoid. I just want to be able to see and get notifications still, just not have the sound. You would think you could just set the notification sound to off and not enable DND? I can do this myself, but 9 times out of 10, I'm listening to music in the shower and then a notification sound happens and I remember I forgot, standing in the shower already...😂

Obviously in this case I don't care about seeing the notifications, but there are cases where I'm streaming music, but still want to be able to get notifications. And not just priority ones.

Wonder if that would still cause the BT stream to drop though? I would have to check. Thanks for the suggestion.

This was the solution. THANK YOU! Works perfectly! You can set to 0 and then reset after BT is disconnected. Notifications still come through and no drop in BT. Awesome!

See the note about setting the volume above this message...fixed it or me!
In my use case it doesn't work, because this action only modifies the standard notification sound, while I have several apps that I set a custom sound to which would continue to play

Hmmm...under Actions, select Volume Change. Then you can select Notification volume and set it to 0. That shouldn't change the notification sound itself, just the volume.

Thank you, but my problem is different, there is no need to discuss it here (I've already written about it in another thread)

Awesome, can you share the Macro that finally worked, I have been trying to get this same action to work on my S21 for a week now and it seems like it {the Macro} never works although it tests fine.
And did you HAVE to go "Pro" just to get this to work ???

The pro version shouldn't be required, only around 2 actions need it to be added (and it's not even a hardcoded limitation).

Also, I don't want to have to go anywhere and change a setting - then have to change it back every time I want to listen to music via Bluetooth.
Even just having to click on "DND" before and after is a real pain, because I am old and sometimes I forget, then I miss important alerts/notifications.
The one macro I setup should just turn DND on when "Music" plays, then turn DND off when I stop the Music. The point in using a Macro is so it is AUTOMATED... but it never senses the "Music" - then I tried it with specific Apps, Amazon Music & Spotify, and it still did not work in regular usage. The test function just makes sure the code is setup correctly, it does NOT actually make a software "call" to an App nor does it use any sensors to see if the code is actually working.

Can anyone explain to me HOW any macro actually gets "initiated" ??
Once a macro is setup, does it NOT initiate itself when the "Trigger" occurs?
Do I have to "Export" or Save the macro somewhere to have it work ???
Do I need to have separate Macros, one for turning on the DND when "music/sound plays", another for turning DND off when music stops???
And this "Music/Sound playing" trigger ... what does it actually "listen" for, I use Amazon Music, Spotify, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM, Pandora, and other Apps on my Samsung S21 that produce sound/music along with their programming output, I hope the trigger can pick up on all these, but NOT initiate with just the music/sounds I have set up as custom Notifications and Call sounds....
Because THIS is doing nothing for me...

The constraint only applies when you are being called (when phone is ringing). Try removing it.
You also can explain what you are to do instead.

I see, I thought that would "constrain" the DND to anything EXCEPT "Phone Calls" so I would hear an incoming call....
So, if that works now, will all my Notifications still play through my phone instead of through the Bluetooth speaker/car AND NOT lower the volume of the playing music ??
