Pixel adaptive charging and MD

I've been trying to get the pixel adaptive charging to work on my pixel 6a to no avail. I called pixel support and they said I had to give it 14 days to learn my charging habits, which I did, and still no adaptive charging. Yes, the phone says adaptive charging is on, but the phone fast charges as if adaptive charging was off.

This is my user log from my charging macros the last time I charged the phone to 100% [37% to 100% in ~ 1.5 hours]:
[2023-07-02 23:01:29] - Battery at 100% state of charge for 00:01:20
[2023-07-02 23:00:08] - Battery charged from 95% to 100% [+5%] in 00:15:49
[2023-07-02 22:58:06] - Adaptive charging is on. Battery full by 6:30 AM.
[2023-07-02 22:48:29] - Adaptive charging is on. Battery full by 6:30 AM.
[2023-07-02 22:44:19] - Battery charged from 90% to 95% [+5%] in 00:16:48
[2023-07-02 22:38:53] - Adaptive charging is on. Battery full by 6:30 AM.
[2023-07-02 22:29:16] - Adaptive charging is on. Battery full by 6:30 AM.
[2023-07-02 22:27:31] - Battery charged from 85% to 90% [+5%] in 00:09:25
[2023-07-02 22:19:40] - Adaptive charging is on. Battery full by 6:30 AM.
[2023-07-02 22:18:06] - Battery charged from 80% to 85% [+5%] in 00:08:02
[2023-07-02 22:10:03] - Battery charged from 37% to 80% [+43%] in 00:41:47
[2023-07-02 21:28:16] - Adaptive charging is on. Battery full by 6:30 AM.
[2023-07-02 21:28:16] - Battery disch'd from 81% to 37% [-44%] in 23:17:32

For notifications I have ignore ongoing notifications = not selected and prevent multiple triggers = not selected.
There are a total of 6 "Adaptive charging is on" notifications.

Because the notifications above say Battery full by 6:30 AM, you would assume the alarm is set to 6:30 AM in the Clock app, but you would be wrong [that alarm is set to 7:30 AM]. Instead the 6:30 AM alarm is a One Off alarm set in MD, literally set at 06:29:59 just before it goes off. I assume adaptive charging knows about it since it goes off Mon-Fri every week. IDK.

So, finally I determined I needed to try adaptive charging with MD disabled, and guess what, it worked:
[2023-07-23 06:22:00] - Battery charged to 100% 'battery charged to 100% ~ 1 hour before alarm
[2023-07-23 05:55:00] - Battery charged to 92% 'sometime between 4:22 and 5:55 phone resumed charging
[2023-07-23 04:22:00] - Battery charged to 81%
[2023-07-22 23:29:00] - Battery charged to 81%
[2023-07-22 21:46:00] - Adaptive charging is on. Battery full by 7:30 AM. 'this is the alarm in the Clock app
[2023-07-22 21:15:00] - Battery disch'd from 86% to 21% [-65%] in 46:22:14 'I manually figured out the time difference

This is close to what was expected, battery charges to 80%, then stops charging, and 1 hour before alarm, resumes charging and tops off just before alarm.
Pixel support did tell me that when the pixel reaches 100% the battery is disconnected from power. If that's true, why do I even need adaptive charging?

Any thoughts?

I am not familiar with Pixel adaptive charging.

I use battery protect on my Galaxy S23.

Look on the net and you'll find lots of different and often conflicting advice about charging phone battery.

I generally charge regularly to 85% and once a week charge to 100%, as this is supposed to help maximise the battery health and longevity.

On the S23 the battery protect setting limits charging to 85% when set and to 100% when disabled.

I have a macro that controls the battery protect setting when charging is started. The phone stops charging when the set limit is reached.

I realise this doesn't help with your adaptive battery issue, but I thought it might be useful to know about an alternative charging philosophy.
