Pixel 6 hardware shortcut

Hey guys,

So I made a plan to finally be able to prevent shutdowns on my Google pixel 6 - to detect when the power button has been long-pressed. The problem with this is that this phone has another shortcut (tapping the power button and volume up button at the same time) to open the power options.

My question is: Does anyone have a fix? Does anyone know how to prevent that shortcut from working?

Have you tried pressing the power button on your pixel 6 for more than 5-15 seconds ?
If you didn't yet you can try it right now.
Tell us what happens ;)

What that does is a forced RESTART. When the phone starts up again, it is locked and all connections become online again, this making the phone trackable if stolen.

I hate when people say this to me. I've been trying to fix this for years and then people come up with the dumbest reasons why my idea is a waste of time. I don't care. Just tell me if there is a way to prevent the shortcut of pressing the power button and volume up button. Or even if there is a way to detect that. I don't need you telling me that it's useless because clearly it isnt

If I were to steal a phone for some reason, here's what I would do :
  1. Force "restart" the phone
  2. Press the volume up button to boot to recovery
  3. Wipe data if available
  4. Remove the SIM
And like that, I've just got a new phone ! (On the software side at least. Also please don't take this as instructions to actually steal someone's phone 😂)

You can try using the volume up trigger to intercept this but I doubt that it's really possible.
