Android 12 and S10e

Hello,

thanks for the great app! After lossing my old profile manager I've bought it a few weeks ago and I love it for all of it's functions!
I have a Samsung S10e that asks me for Android 12 upgrade. Will Macrodroid work as before with 11? Or is it expected to loose some functionality after upgrading due to Android's new restrictions?

Thanks for all help!

I have a n Oppo Find X3 Pro that has just upgraded to 12. I was a little apprehensive, especially as the upgrade was a massive 4.8GB.
I haven't done a factory reset, but it is worth doing if you don't mind setting up the phone again. I did have a few apps force closing for a couple of days after the update.
I haven't had any major issues or any loss of functionality in Macrodroid with the upgrade. However, quite a few macros had to be adjusted as Oppo introduced changes such as to the settings layout, the expanded status bar layout and to the name of some system settings. The changes mainly affected UI elements in the macros.
The plus side of Android 12 is that the phone seems faster and smoother.

Oh thanks and great to hear that you didn't regret the update!
I don't mind optical changes that could be adjusted. My S10e got many changes with Nova Launcher that should work properly after updating and helps to make it more indivdual and I don't like the new Android Homescreen, this should be changeable für me. But I was a little bit afraid of Macroidroid's functions e.g for automaticaly switching to airplane mode, bluetooth, recognition of other devices, reading sensors ... Searching a few forums I did not find significant changes.
As you said I hope for better performance and more battery.
If I find something new to report about Macrodroid with Android 12, I will post here.

Okay, I've updated to Adroid 12!
And here's my first problem: When I try to toggle airplane mode, system log says that MD needs permission as assist app. But I already adjusted this. Now I recognized that it works after changing the assist app to another (eg Google) and then back to Macrodroid. After changing it works for a while but after restarting the phone airplane mode doesn't change anymore. Only after changing the assist app to Google and than back to MD helps. Can I do anything to fix this?

I think if you reinstall MacroDroid and follow the steps at dontkillmyapp.com. make sure to backup first!

Thanks, I've already reinstalled after update. Unfortunately all my macros were lost - I made a backup but after uninstall there were no backups left😡. Have to find another way to export them. Now I started with new macros (lasted some hours). Everthing works fine except the airplane mode after restarting the phone.
The settings listed on dontkillmyapp.com are for 11, most of which I found elsewhere in 12. But I had already found these settings in other forums and set them accordingly.
I wonder why MD thinks that it is not assist app although it is set as assist. I guess you can't write a macro that makes this setting after the phone restarts, right?

I'm sorry to learn that things haven't gone smoothly so far.
Losing a your macros is not good....I always make a copy to a cloud storage before factory resetting my phone.
There is a way to set Macrodroid as the Assist App via secure settings.
The attached macro provides the values of 2 settings that are required. If may be worth saving the values of these settings when Google is set as the Assist App, in case you want to change back via a macro.
Hope this helps you develop a macro that meets your needs.

Latest experience: The issue seem to appear not only after restarting the phone but even after some hours of using the phone.

I lost the macros because I misunderstood how the backups work. I completely overlooked the Export button... By the way: Export-function only exports every macro in one file, not only one macro, right? How to export / share one macro then?
@dhj49er: Your suggested path assumes that Google is set as assist app. But I learned that in deed MD is assist app even when airplane mode cannot be changed by MD. I can temporarily help with changing to another assist app (not only Google but any other) and back at once. After that airplane mode works fine. But not for long ... reboot or just time will change it back.

My idea: A new macro notices airplane mode after using another macro (that was supposed to end flight mode) - so it changes the assist app to "none" and than back to "Macrodroid" and restarts the other makro in order to end flight mode, starting Wifi etc.. How should I use your attachment? Sorry, I still have so much to learn!

Dontkillmyapp.com is open source so it will be updated soon I'm sure. It updated 9 days ago

I was not aware of any issues with default assist app being lost on Samsung with Android 12. My S10+ has recently updated to Android 12 so I will see if I can recreate the issue. I think it's highly likely that MacroDroid is not at fault. It's fairly common to find manufacturer bugs in edge case features that are not used typically by most users and most apps, as I guess they don't get the same level of testing as more common things.

I'm very interested in hearing your experience - did you notice the same issue with assist app? Please don't misunderstand my posts - I like MD very much, that's why I want to adapt it as perfectly as possible to my needs. And even without toggeling flight mode it's a great help every day!

I have seen the S10+ lose default admin access, but I'm testing so many different things constantly on many devices that it's entirely likely that it was when I updated the app on the phone inadvertently (It always seems to be reset when installing a new debug build).

So I need to continue testing to be sure. Having said that having looked over the code I'm not really sure there is any way I can fix it myself. The only hope would be for some setting on the Samsung OS that can be toggled to prevent this happening. One thing you could try would be to give MacroDroid device admin access as this could potentially mark MacroDroid as an important app to stop stripping this setting away.
