UPDATE 2021: Despite Android team promise to enforce OEMs to be transparent about non-standard app killing, in Android 11 Samsung has introduced a new severe (default ON) restriction. Apps can no longer hold wake lock in foreground services. This breaks many use-cases, for instance health apps are now unable to gather sensoric data for their users. See details here and read below for workarounds.

Better to show Samsung resistance for such a retrograde step by refusing to buy the phone with android 11.......

This is one reason I don't care to upgrade my phone every year. Also why I disable automatic updates. I'm currently using a Note 8 running L 7.1.1, and it's working great. Every new Android/Samsung update I see, I look up what's new and weigh whether there are enough reasons to move up. So far I haven't seen any. What I DO see are things like this, people finding that they've lost some functionality that they either truly love or depend on. I say no thanks. I can make my phone do basically anything I want, and it's going to stay that way.

Not ragging on people for updating or upgrading, but I've realized "new"<>"happy," for me. Except in apps like this. ;)

Please understand the security risks though. That version is no longer supported.

I don't know if you are missing features on MacroDroid as well
