MacroDroid Wiki - volunteers wanted

Hi,

Given that many users often complain about the lack of documentation or help resources for MacroDroid, with the help of @Jacob L I have started up a basic MacroDroid wiki to help solve this issue. It's early days but I think this can be a good resource of documentation outside of the app once it is fleshed out. The wiki will only be in English I'm afraid as trying to co-ordinate many different languages is a step to far at this stage.

I would like to ask a few trusted members who are interested in contributing to the wiki to post below or let me know directly. At this stage I'd like to keep the number of contributors limited to see how the process works.

Cheers,

Jamie

As you know, Jamie, I've been translating (and validating) MD messages to French for many years, so I could do the same for the Wiki project or, at least, contribute in a 'regular' way. Let me know how I could help.

I am also always happy to be of a help.
Let me know if needed.
I understand the wiki is only in English for now.

Thanks so much for the offer to help translate. The first step is to get the full wiki done and then see if it's viable to translate (it may be such an extremely large amount of text that it's not viable).

I don't know if i am considered as trusted, but i can translate wiki into Czech, as it's my native language. I translated also some apps before like AIO launcher, so plain text should be no problem.

I'd love to collaborate on this project, I've only recently started on Macrodroid but I think it sorta made me want to go into computer science!

Proposal.
Please add explanation for * and ? wildcards into the wiki. Or is it already there?

'*' stands for any number of character (from 0 to any, same as '.*' in Regex) and '?' is for 1 and only 1 mandatory character (same as '.{1}' in Regex).

It'll be added if not present yet. Thanks for the suggestion!

this explanation has not been added yet !
update: it's added but in the action for "if" (I expected it to be in the constraints section for variables)

also, I wanted to join the wiki to add this explanation and more from my experience (because it's sorely lacking on this important topic of variable testing, eg. text case and regex supported)
and I saw that the forum login/password are not accepted but I have to make yet a new account
so I must maintain 3 accounts (forum, cloud backup, wiki)
I think this is not friendly and one account should rule all 😂
so I ask first if something can be done about this (and furthermore in the future when a user clicks on wiki inside the app he should get logged in automatically as well)

finally I believe that this specific wiki entry should be added/expanded only by @MacroDroidDev because user experience is one thing but real code that only the developer knows is the real thing

@dsnz Thanks for your feedback. I carefully control who can access the wiki because if I allow just anyone to edit it, there will no doubt be rogue users who will just go and trash things. (The same thing happens occasionally in the translations from time to time as random user's sign up just to write swear words all over a particular language translation). I'm sure it's only a very tiny handful of people, but it only takes one to ruin my day. If you would like to sign up to the wiki for editing then please let me know your email address you have signed up for and I will give you admin access.

Most users have no need to sign in/register to the wiki at all so I don't have any plans to come up with some single sign in. Ultimately I'm a mobile dev who has thrown all this together the best I can. These are separate pieces of software and while there may be some way to come up with single sign in with various plugins etc. I don't want to waste many hours trying to achieve something which is of no benefit to most users.

the control of who can write in the wiki is understandable,
I just saw a login/join screen and thought it's open to anyone
I will send you my email
thank you 😊

@dsnz: done (quickly with a link).
exactly, what I would do regarding the position of this help bit 😊

but must add that case does not matter when not in regex mode
plus specify which exact regex language it uses (I guess it's the Java 8 regex) and include a link to a few web pages with helpful content (one page should be at least the Java 8 documentation on regex)
