MacroDroid Helper APK

Well, you can allow only permissions you think are necessary, but honestly it's better to enable all of them do that you don't have to worry about it. If you don't you might be confused later on when you use a feature you didn't use before and it doesn't work.

Permissions which can be always on NEED to be always on else it's as if the permission is not enabled (unless you open the helper app).

On later Android releases I think those permissions that aren't actually used are eventually revoked, right?

Hello, I've just bought device with Android 14 and Xiaomi HyperOS.
If I install Helper and Termux for using adb commands as this topic describes, does it makes me possible to enable/disable wi-fi fully automatically without UI confirmation?

If you don't disable a toggle within the permissions screen it will disable all permissions after a few months if you don't open the app.

The helper app has been updated to v1.15 fixing an issue with shell scripts having newlines removed.
There might be another update soon for the hotspot action.

With an older version of the helper installed, what's the process to get the update in? Is it the same as installing it in the first place?

Download the APK and install it. If it's already installed and you are on Android 14 you don't need to use ADB.
Hmm. On Android 14. Android offered to update the app and then says it's incompatible with my phone with no option to install anyway. So I guess it's the same ADB job as when I originally installed v1.14?

Huh. I thought it was only necessary for the install, maybe because no one bothered to try to update the app since it's not frequently updated.

I'm not sure when I will exactly get to it, but I do have plans to try and improve this whole situation and finally write some kind of official guide that can get translated etc.

I'm still working through things as I'm updating the helper file to support the HotSpot functionality that now doesn't work on Android 14 with the new SDK update. I'm starting to get concerned that there will be am ever increasing stream of users who start to need the helper app but can't install on Android 14 (and beyond). I'm toying with the idea of a more limited connectivity helper app (that can do just bluetooth, wifi and hotspot) and will be easily installable on all devices. I would then make the current helper app a universal helper app that does everything. If you have the universal helper you wont need anything else (as current).

This does of course make things somewhat more complex/confusing so if I do go down this route I will need to have better documentation (and translations) to make this more understandable for beginner users who don't really want to understand the app they just want the hotspot to toggle on/off when they connect to their car (for example).

Is there an issue with the link on the first page? I've clicked to download version 1_16, but when it is installed it doesn't update my existing app, v1_14. Instead it installs a new app that is titled MD Xiaomi Helper, which crashes on startup. Looking in my settings this app says it is v1_14 as well.

Apologies it looks like I uploaded the wrong file. I have now correct this so please try again and you should get the correct version.

Hello,
I would like to put all this information about the new version of Helper and the lack of the ability to activate Hotspot on Android 14+ into some logical whole. I did not pay for the application to now install 8 applications / 5 patches / learn ADB programming procedures from 5 different Tutorials. I am not a beginner user, I program in SQL, but this "mess" that you /creators/ and users who every other post provide videos/links/macros/commands to deal with the above problems are

1- inconsistent
(Creators - use a PC, download ADB, use CMD, enter commands)

(Users - "I wrote a program for Android, you don't need a PC", "enable this macro written by me", "and check that macro with this macro", "you can also run this macro via ADB command")
https://www.macrodroidforum.com/index.php?threads/instal ling-helper-on-android-14.5606/page-3#post-40853

- WHO/WHEN/WHERE/HOW TO LISTEN/WHICH METHOD IS BEST/ARE PROGRAMS-MACROS WRITTEN BY USERS CHECKED BY THE HELPER CREATORS/WHO TO TRUST?

2- zero responsibility
You keep writing that the "MacroDroid" program can't do this because of Google, can't do that because of the Play store, can't do this because of the new Android, so maybe don't offer something for money HOW CAN'T YOU DEAL WITH THIS! Or withdraw the function (because now I constantly have a triangle with an exclamation mark because MacroDroid can't turn on the Hotspot, I KNOW!! IT DOESN'T HAVE TO REMIND ME OF THIS ALL THE TIME, I SEE IN THE CAR THAT CHILDREN CAN'T WATCH YT, WHY ARE YOU GIVING ME MESSAGES, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!)

IMG_20240806_090824.jpg

Moreover, what kind of PROGRAMMER do you have to be to not foresee the "UPDATE" option? HELPER even after the first installation of version 1.14 via ADB is not able to update itself AND YOU HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING AGAIN... WHY?...

Moving on to the point of my argument, is there/WILL there be (if so, when/in how much time) some plan/guidelines for users on what to do/how to do/what to do, so that it is most easily CHECKED AND ACCEPTED by the Creators WITHOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF EDIT/ADDING instructions by other people, so that there is only one responsibility, SO THAT THOSE WHO ARE PAID FOR THE PROGRAM SHOULD SHOW WHAT AND HOW TO BEST DO SO THAT IT IS KNOWN WHAT WE ARE PAYING FOR.

Thank you and best regards

What appears to have agitated you is your children not being able to watch yt in the car AND Macrodroid keeps telling you to update helper to 1.16.

I have Hotspot macros and had the warning to update helper to 1.16.

I couldn't update helper straight away and disabled the Hotspot macros to stop the warnings.

Why didn't you do that?

Why didn't you use the phone hotspot setting to keep the kids happy?

Updating the helper took less than a minute after connecting my phone to my laptop and I am not a programmer.

I have been a Macrodroid user for over 10 years

I thank the Developer for finding ways to work around all the Google inspired limitations they have introduced into Android.

Maybe, you should look for an alternative automation app that doesn't need additional apps or adb. I'm sure the Developer will give you a full refund.
