how can you enable tethering hotspot with macrodroid ??

hello everyone, I have a smartphone xiaomi redmi note 8 and I cannot in any way activate a tethering hotspot connection with my macrodroid pro, I saw that as soon as that action is created, a message appears that there may be problems with all versions of android higher than 7.
I am on vacation with amazon home automation devices see echo show 8 and echo dot 4 that I would like to be able to use in some slot times by enabling the internet connection by turning on the wifi via hotspot.
once I have solved this problem, so I really hope I will think about activating the hotspot no longer based on a time but on scenes with presence sensors, and other things I have in mind.
I really hope that the problem I have told you can be overcome.
I trust you in your abilities and in the fact that you can help others, which in general is not so obvious in technology forums.
let's not forget that not being able to enable the hotspot is a significant problem that limits and resizes the use of the app.
a greeting to all levideo

honestly, I find it hard to believe that none of you are able to answer me or suggest a solution.
I understand that it is a complicated thing, but in fact it limits the potential of our MD

Not quite sure of the issue. If it isn't working and it warns you then it can't be done. If it works despite the waning then there's no issue. If you follow steps at dontkillmyapp.com it may help

the big problem of md is that it is not possible to turn hotspot on and off via the app, of course I will try to see what you suggested via

dontkillmyapp.com

thank you very much, of course you should be able to use md alone without the aid of a side app, otherwise it's a shame and you reduce the potential of the program.
it is desirable that the md developer does his utmost to find the best possible solution, this also for geofence which is completely unusable.
hope for the best
bye avchd

But if @mirrorless m43 tested it with Macrodroid in foreground then that does not come from here

dear jacob

let me know how I should use dontkillmyapp.com
you have a guide of use it ??
thank you
The website starts by showing you a list of OEMs such as Sony, Samsung. So pick your device. Then it will show you a series of steps to exempt apps from being killed by the OS

dear jacob, you wrote I'm not entirely sure about the problem.
we hope to be able to solve the tethering and geofence problem through the app you kindly suggested to me see dont 'kill my app.
it would be great to create powerful macro scripts capable of doing the following:
let's take the example of the problem related to enabling the hotspost.
as soon as you try to use hotspot and check the screen that warns of the problem related to the use of a version higher than 6 a request by the script to enter the model of the smartphone in use, for example xiaomi and with the possibility of selecting the model correspondent let's example of my case redmi note 8.
and at this point the script in iteration mode or other should set the various settings related to dont'kill my app etc. etc. macro will work without problems.
I think this thing although complex to achieve but I think it is not impossible to do, it would give greater prestige to macrodroid and eliminate some reservations in its use, incidentally they are not faults to be amputated to macrodroid, but to the limitations imposed by some smartphone manufacturers and from the android version in use.
succeeding would be simply fantastic.
we hope for a direct involvement of the md developer and the most skilled users of the group on the subject
bye and thanks a lot mirrorlessm43

Any ADB commands that the website dontkillmyapp.com asks for are built into the ADB hack batch file. Everything else is in the troubleshooting section of MacroDroid. That's because there's some settings I can't fix for people. You don't need the dontkillmyapp.com app, just the website.

unfortunately for me it is unclear it would be nice to have some small examples to guide us and to better understand the problem.
a bit like when you edit a macro created by users to understand how it is done and possibly clone and modify it

Don't kill my app is a website that guide users to stop their device system from killing their apps. Restrictions depends on the device manufacturer and noted from πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Ž (Worse restrictions) to πŸ† (Almost no restrictions to none). For example Xiaomi has a rating of πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Ž. In every device manufacturer you can find a list of steps (depending on your version) that will help you preventing your app (here Macrodroid) from being killed.
I hope this helps you understand !

and I thought that dont'kill my app was to be used only as an android app, so if I have not misunderstood I can uninstall it and use it only from a computer ??

Yes. The android app is just the guide without the website but it's basically the same.

thank you very much there are few in the group who respond and have the skills to respond, it is also true that then there are those who know how to respond but do not help.
to all of them I say that if I know a solution I do not keep it for myself but in the spirit of the forum I answer and help others, as it should be.

This macro toggles hotspot on and off and works fine.

My phone is a Realme GT Neo 2 running Android 12.

I had a Xiaomi 12 but found the OS to interfere with settings. For example periodically it would turn off all the apps accessibility settings. Unfortunately turning on each setting involved waiting 10 secs before the OS would show Ok to change the setting. This was the first phone that I had owned that invoked such a "security" feature. So non Stock Android and the phone quickly returned.
The Xiaomi OS on your phone may be preventing MD from controlling Hotspot.
Have you asked Xiaomi if this might be happening?

thank you for the very interesting answer you have given.
how can you try the macro you reported without having to copy and create it in md ??
logically if even with your macro it does not work, I would like to ask the question directly to xiaomi to understand how to solve, I think all these limitations constraints eventually lead to bad publicity to xiaomi

We tested the operation on a Xiaomi device and were able to turn tethering on and off with standard functions.
If it does not work, please try the disabled actions.
Before using ADB Shell [Tasker Plugin], the command adb tcpip 5555 is required.

Hello. I have just joined the forum and would like to comment about the hotspot issue. I must take the time to thoroughly read what has been said here in this thread. My experience follows. It might help a little.

In fact I purchased MacroDroid specifically for the issue you mentioned. I wanted my phone to automatically turn on my hotspot after rebooting. I read online (I think in Reddit) that MacroDroid can do this.

I believe this ability (turning on the hotspot) requires to have a rooted phone. I am using this feature on my rooted Moto G Power. It works. I also turn on the mobile data first (requires rooted device).

One caveat is that it requires you to unlock your phone initially after booting before the hotspot activates.

This macro helps me a lot, but it would not be useful for an unattended situation. I tried this macro on only one phone. My other phones are incompatible with Verizon, my carrier.

I think you already know this, but much of our difficulty stems from OS security policy. Access is limited by design. Developers wrestle with API's. Google and other OS maker are picky about what they'll let devs do.

I have a nifty set of macros I'm running on four different Android or Android-like devices.

Two of them are rooted phones. One more is unrooted phone, plus an unrooted Fire tablet. Of these devices, my Poco X3 GT phone (Xiaomi) running MYUI is the most frustrating.

I hope to root this phone and replace MYUI MIUI with Android if possible. The Poco is my most recent – most powerful – phone, so it is doubly frustrating.

I hope this helps. I'll repost if I said anything incorrect. I have to verify some things. Good luck.

This statement is incorrect.
I have an un-rooted Realme GT Neo 2 and turning the Hotspot on and off via a macro works fine.
